Summary
The 1974 station is overcrowded, has asbestos flooring, no decon room, no ADA access, and apparatus bays too small for modern trucks. Impact fees of about $1.35 million must be committed within six years or returned to developers — using them on this project means near-zero tax impact for the first three years of a 20-year bond.

Impact analysis
About $421 total over 20 years for a $500K home, possibly less if more impact fees arrive — roughly zero tax impact in the first three years.
Firefighters get a safe, modern, accessible station, and residents keep first-class fire response without losing expiring impact fees.
Taxpayers already stretched by the revaluation, schools, and police station debt will eventually see a small added bond cost; some residents question the per-square-foot price.

Town Council - Sep 14, 2026
The current South Fire Station scored a 36 on the building condition index — one of the worst in town — and lacks decontamination zones, ADA compliance and gender-neutral facilities. The new design keeps the building roughly in place with a hot/cold zone layout and a training mezzanine, trending just over $10 million with a warrant article expected in December.
Budget Committee - Jun 25, 2026
The town council voted 8-1 to have the Municipal Buildings Advisory Committee prepare a presentation for a full replacement of the south side fire station, with a starting estimate around $10 million. It could go to voters as a 2027 warrant article, partly because some impact fees are set to expire. Jeff Hatch was the lone council vote against even preparing the presentation.
Town Council - Feb 9, 2026
The cramped South Fire Station is slated for teardown and rebuild; the fire chief now says three vehicle bays make more sense than two, and the Council agreed to explore the cost.
